An Optimum Retransmission Cut-Off Scheme for Slotted ALOHA
نویسندگان
چکیده
The retransmission cut-off is not needed for a stable operation of slotted ALOHA if the new packet generation rate is below a critical limit. The throughput never reaches its maximum value if the new packet generation rate is less than this critical limit irrespective of the number of transmissions. The maximum throughput is attained by adjusting the number of transmissions, pertaining to the new packet generation rate exceeding the critical limit. A complete analysis for the new packet generation rate with the proper adjustment of the number of transmissions that maximize the channel throughput in a Rayleigh fading channel is executed. A stable operating region in terms of the packet rejection probability and the corresponding number of transmissions is devised.

Retransmission Control in Mobile Radio Slotted Aloha
For the slotted ALOHA protocol in a mobile radio environment, a retransmission control scheme is proposed, and a rigorous analysis is developed to prove the stability of the resulting system. This analysis is shown to apply to virtually any model for the spatial distribution of the users. It is also shown that the use of retransmission control is unavoidable if the network performance predicted...
متن کاملThe effect of limiting the number of retransmission trials on the stability of slotted ALOHA systems
We investigate the effect of limiting the number of retransmission trials on the stability of slotted ALOHA systems with no capture effect. Using an argument of the catastrophe theory, we prove that a slotted ALOHA system is mono-stable, if the number of retransmission trials is limited to, at most, eight. We also show how the bistable region is enlarged, as the number of retransmission trials ...
متن کاملEffect of exponential backoff scheme and retransmission cutoff on the stability of frequency-hopping slotted ALOHA systems
The combinatorial effect of an exponential backoff scheme and retransmission cutoff on the stability of frequencyhopping slotted ALOHA systems with finite population is investigated in terms of the catastrophe theory. In the systems, the packet retransmission probabilities are geometrically distributed with respect to the number of experienced unsuccessful transmissions and a packet will be dis...
متن کاملDelay distributions of slotted ALOHA and CSMA
In this paper, we derive the closed-form delay distributions of slotted ALOHA and nonpersistent carrier sense multiple access (CSMA) protocols under steady state. Three retransmission policies are analyzed. We find that under a binary exponential backoff retransmission policy, finite average delay and finite delay variance can be guaranteed for 2 and 4 3, respectively, where is the channel traf...
متن کاملPerformance analysis of Block ACK-Based Slotted ALOHA for wireless networks with long propagation delay
Recently, many variants of Slotted ALOHA (S-ALOHA) have been proposed to solve a problem of performance degradation in wireless networks with long propagation delay. However, they do not consider the effect of retransmission, which also largely degrades performance, and do not provide any analytical model that considers the effect. In this paper, we design a variant of S-ALOHA to support retran...
